Yahoo Buys Zimbra

Yahoo to acquire business software maker Zimbra

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Yahoo Inc (YHOO.O) said on Monday it will pay $350 million in a cash and stock deal to acquire Zimbra, makers of "open source" e-mail and collaboration software that is an alternative to Microsoft Outlook.

This will be an interesting duo to watch. The acquisition certainly validates the open source collaboration market space, putting Yahoo in direct competition with Google and Microsoft for its share of web office applications. I would like to know how current Zimbra customers and partners feel about the deal - will Zimbra retain its self-sufficient, innovative nature or be swallowed up and commercialized by Yahoo?
